Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, a world-renowned exponent of the bansuri or the bamboo flute, is one of those rare classical musicians who’ve expanded the periphery of classical music by taking it to the masses. The maestro has introduced several innovations in the art of playing flute. He has significantly expanded the expressive possibilities of North Indian classical flute through his masterful blowing technique.

Pt Chaurasia has collaborated with several western musicians, including John McLaughlin and Jan Gabarek. He has performed throughout the world, winning acclaim from varied audiences and fellow musicians, including Yehudi Menuhin and Jean Pierre Rampal.
At present, he heads the World Music Department at the Rotterdam Music Conservatory, Netherlands. A much sought-after contemporary musician today, he’s also a dedicated teacher with several students world-wide.
