Thats a Wrap!
Dear All,
Thanks everyone for making these last 2 weeks a truly amazing experience for us. The response to all the performances and leading up to last nights Mahashivarathri has been more than we couldve hoped for. While hundreds of thousands joined us in person at the Isha Yoga Center, more than 2500 joined us online to partake in the evening festival.
Please check out last nights audio/video webstream, if you weren’t able to join us live, the archives will be available for a short time only, catch them while you can.
We’ll continue to bring video highlights from both Yaksha and Mahashivarathri at the soonest. Please let us know your experience and how we might be able to build on this in the coming years.
Warm Regards,
Isha Yaksha Volunteers
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia – Yaksha 2010, Night 13 – Video Highlight
The flute recital of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, who was accompanied by Yogesh on the tabla and Bhawani Shankar (pakhwaj), was unique for more reasons than one. His rendition of a devotional composition welcoming the moon in Bhoopali with an alap and jhod dripped in melody.

Sivanai Patri Dance Troupe – Yaksha 2010, Night 12 – Video Highlight
Priyadarsini Govind and Anjana Anand presented ‘Sivanai Patri’ which eulogised the attributes of Siva, drawn from the lives of Sambandar and Thirunavukkarasar. After the invocatory item on Lord Dakshinamurthi, Priyadarsini explored the shringara rasam in ‘Inda Siddhar Yaaro. ‘Kuyile Ilam Kuyile’ relating to Gnanasambandar was depicted by Anjana with sensitivity and maturity. The free flowing arm movements, meticulously executed postures and quick changes in expressions of both the dancers were arresting.

Night 13: Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, a world-renowned exponent of the bansuri or the bamboo flute, is one of those rare classical musicians who’ve expanded the periphery of classical music by taking it to the masses. Night 12: Sivanai Patri Dance Troupe
Sivanai patri is about Siva, the supreme artist and mighty vanquisher, who created life, nourished love and destroyed darkness. It is about the fountainhead of spirituality, but also the epitome of beauty, grace and compassion.
A dance performance to celebrate Tamil verse on the Cosmic Dancer by Priyadarshini Govind and Anjana Anand, Sivanai Patri takes you into the world of Tamil poets who sang about their ishta devata or personal god. Inflamed by the fervour of Appar, Sambandar, Tirukuta Rasappar, Muthu Tandavar and Tayumanavar, these songs address all men and women regardless of class or caste.
Explorating new artistic spaces inspired by the collaborative possibilities offered by both tradition and modernity, Sivanai Patri is an uplifting blend of poetry, music, dance and painting.
Priyadarsini Govind is a brilliant exponent of the Rajaratnam Pillai school of Bharatanatyam and Anjana Anand is from Kalakshetra, a cultural academy dedicated to the preservation of traditional values in Indian art.
